Publications Associate
Families USA, the national health care advocacy organization, is looking for a detail-oriented, passionate, and hardworking individual to be our new Publications Associate. The Publications Associate will work with the Publications Director and the Writer-Editor to ensure that Families USA materials—both print and electronic—are clear, effective, grammatical, and correct. This work includes the following responsibilities:
- Assisting in editing, copyediting, and proofreading all of Families USA's publications and Web content. This includes the following categories of Families USA’s publications/Web content:
- media reports;
- fact sheets;
- issue briefs;
- state-specific reports;
- Health Policy Memos;
- materials designed specifically for the Families USA Web site;
- various written materials for the annual conference;
- press releases and statements; and
- other written matter, as assigned.
- Editing monthly e-newsletters, including the Minority Health Connection and the Health Assistance Partnership e-newsletter.
- Writing brief content for the Families USA Web site.
- Posting and publishing Web materials, as assigned.
- Tracking Web postings of all Families USA publications and making corrections when necessary.
- Editing and posting biweekly updates to the online State Expansions Resource Center.
- Participating in regular meetings about publications and Web projects.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of English grammar and spelling;
- Experience with all levels of editing, from a simple copyedit to a complete rewrite;
- Ability to make complex language clear and succinct;
- Attention to detail;
- Passion for social justice and progressive values;
- Ability to work in a team; and
- Flexibility and a sense of humor.
