We work to improve public health programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the state Children’s Health Insurance Program, as well as to ensure that health care reform and private insurance meet the needs of low-income and vulnerable populations.

About the Position

Families USA has an exciting opportunity for a creative, passionate, and energetic individual to be our new Field Associate.

The Field Associate reports to the Field Director and is an integral part of the field team. He/she also works closely with other Families USA departments, including Communications, Publications, Health Policy, Government Affairs, and the Minority Health Initiative.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop and nurture relationships with grassroots health care leaders and their organizations. Gather and compile information about the capacities and needs of grassroots groups. Communicate Families USA’s policy priorities and plans.
• Develop and manage contracts with state-based groups;
• Monitor relevant state legislative developments; 
• Work with other Families USA departments to respond to state-based groups requests for technical assistance;
• Coordinate rallies, meetings, and out-of-town campaigns;
• Work with the field team to develop the short- and long-term direction for the department.

Candidates for the position should have at least two years of field experience in other advocacy organizations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to issues of health equity and social justice. Health care advocacy experience is a definite plus but not essential. A sense of humor and ability to work as a team are important.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Generous benefits are provided.
