Happy Anniversary to the New Health Care Law!
|
To celebrate the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, each day this week has been designated to highlight how it benefits a different group:
- Monday, March 21: Small Businesses
- Tuesday, March 22: Seniors
- Wednesday, March 23: Patients’ Bill of Rights
- Thursday, March 24: Women’s Care
- Friday, March 25: Young People
The following fact sheets, developed by our national partners, will help you describe the real benefits people are experiencing as a result of the health care law:
To see how many people in your state are benefiting from the new law, see Families USA’s new table, States Are Benefitting from Provisions of the Affordable Care Act, and check out the publications in the Health Reform Central section of our site.
And here's a moving video about the young Violet McManus, whose epilepsy made her uninsurable until the Affordable Care Act was enacted.
What You Can Do: The anniversary is a great time to recognize the achievements of the health care law. The opponents of the new law, just like the opponents of Social Security and Medicare in earlier eras, are pulling out all the stops to undermine these important new gains. Help make sure the public hears the other side of the story–the new protections against insurance company abuses, the help for people who have trouble getting health insurance, and much, much more. Check out some of the materials that explain the benefits. Then talk to your neighbors, call in to talk radio, write a letter to the editor of your paper. Spread the word as far and wide as you can: This new health care law is a great start on giving Americans health security, so let’s defend it and make it work and then build on it, just like we did with Social Security and Medicare.
