In order to advance the fight for global health, we must invest in the research and development (R&D) of new medical tools to combat global infectious diseases like malaria, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, and neglected tropical diseases. New diagnostics, treatments, and preventatives—including vaccines—are needed.
Through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the structure is in place to conduct the research that will make medical advances a reality. But innovation takes time and money. If we are to make real progress, NIH and CDC need more funding for global health research.
