What: The Cornell School of Law Legal Information Institute (LII) offers users comprehensive online legal research.  The LII Supreme Court Collection permits users to search current and past Supreme Court decisions. 
How to search: The LII Supreme Court Collection permits users to search in several ways.  The most commonly used search methods are highlighted below, however users will benefit from further exploration of this site.

  • Keyword or Phrase - On the top portion of the Supreme Court Collection page (linked above), users may complete keyword and phrase searches of either current and past decisions.  If unsure of a specific citation, party name or date of decision search methods prove useful.
  • Decisions - Users may browse Supreme Court decisions (called "opinions") handed down after October by Party Name, browsed by decisions handed down during the current month or current term.  Opinions may also be searched by keyword or phrase.
  • Orders When the Supreme Court determines a petition without an opinion, the decision is called an order.  Users may access orders by searching party names, dates or docket numbers.  Users may also browse orders issued during the current month.

Helpful hints:  The Supreme Court Collection main page (linked above) offers a short list of the most recent opinions issued.  Researchers attempting to access a recently decided hot-topic case should first browse here.  The LII Web site also offers helpful and interesting Supreme Court background information.
