In addition, CMS has responsibility for implementation of various provisions of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), and regulates clinical study programs involving humans through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
