Lady Luck Brings Medicare Road Show to Las Vegas
April 16, 2004
Las Vegas, Nevada

"The odds on this law are worse than that of the slot machines," exclaimed one frustrated senior. This was one of the many expressions of dissatisfaction voiced by some of the 100+ seniors who gathered at the Cara Coleman Senior Center for the Las Vegas leg of the Medicare Road Show.

Congresswoman Shelley Berkley was accompanied by Senator Harry Reid and Dee Mahan, Deputy Director of Health Policy at Families USA. Congresswoman Berkley explained to the audience the highly unusual turn of events that led to passage of this new law, and she called seniors to action and urged them to voice their concerns. Senator Reid announced that he planned to introduce amendments to the law.

Seniors were not shy about sharing their concerns regarding the new discount card. They also raised fears about how they would stay informed about the new benefit-much of the up-to-the-minute information will be available on the Internet, but many seniors do not have access to computers or know how to use them to pinpoint the information they need.
