Over 330 Cuban-American Seniors Attend First-in-the-Nation
"Road Show" in Miami
March 5, 2004

Miami seniors watch video hosted by Walter CronkiteThe Medicare Road Show made its very first stop in sunny Miami on March 5. Nearly 330 Cuban-American seniors attended the bilingual event held at the Armando Badia Senior Center. Each attendee received a tool kit with informational materials in Spanish and a button with the Medicare Road Show campaign logo.

After watching the Spanish version of the video-hosted by veteran journalist Walter Cronkite-guest speakers Emilio Vazquez, South Florida Regional Director for Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), and Marta Navarro, of the Cuban-American National Council, addressed the group in Spanish. Both speakers talked about the pitfalls of the new legislation and offered their support to future changes in the law. Seniors asked questions about their Medicare and Medicaid coverage and were disappointed to learn about the shortcomings of the new Medicare prescription drug law.

"It doesn't matter if you are young or old, fat or skinny. Affordable health care and prescription drugs are a right and should not be a privilege," said the advocate, receiving a round of loud applause from the audience.
