The Medicare Road Show Goes West! March 29, 2004 The Four Freedoms Retirement Center in northern Seattle hosted the Medicare Road Show on March 29, 2004. Former Governor Booth Gardner, who suffers from advanced Parkinson's disease, addressed the audience along with Dr. Lori Whittaker of Congressman Jim McDermott's (D-7th) office, and Families USA's Executive Director Ron Pollack. Former Governor Mike Lowry also joined the seniors as a member of the audience.
The following morning, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer published a front-page article on Section B, with the headline "'Medicare Road Show' provokes strong feelings in Seattle - Changes fall short, seniors say." The story featured 74-year-old Shirley Crawford, who, according to the article, is "mad that prescription-drug costs are increasing faster than her Social Security pension."
