House of Representatives Approves Bill to Require Medicare Drug Negotiating
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a bill that would repeal the current provision that prohibits the Secretary of Health and Human Services from negotiating with drug companies for lower prices on behalf of seniors enrolled in Medicare. The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA, about the vote:
“The vote today by the House is an important step to make Medicare drug prices more affordable for America’s seniors and taxpayers. Seniors who need multiple medicines are being priced out of the drugs they need, and this will provide real relief for them.
“We urge the Senate to immediately follow suit, and we hope that the President will reconsider his ill-advised threat to veto this bill."
