Reaction to Former Senator Daschle's Appointment as the Head of the White House Office of Health Care Reform and Nomination as the Next HHS Secretary
The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA, about today’s nomination of former Senator Tom Daschle as Secretary of Health and Human Services and as the Director of the newly created White House Office of Health Care Reform:
“Today’s announcement from President-elect Obama is unprecedented and truly historic. The nomination of Senator Daschle as not only the new Secretary of Health and Human Services, but also as the Director of the newly created White House Office of Health Care Reform, is the best news possible for all of us interested in meaningful health care reform.
“Senator Daschle has a long record of fighting for high-quality, affordable health care, and his nomination only reinforces the President-elect’s deep and strong commitment to making health care reform a top and early priority for his Administration.”
