President Obama's Speech: Health Care Reform Becomes Top Priority for Action in 2009
Fixing the Economy and the Budget Deficit Can’t Be Achieved without Meaningful Health Care Reform
President Obama on Tuesday evening addressed a joint session of Congress, speaking about the recession and other challenges that face the nation. The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA, about that speech:
“President Obama is absolutely correct that the nation’s economy and the federal budget deficit cannot be fixed without meaningful health care reform. It is essential that the reform process begin immediately so that legislation can be adopted as early as possible in 2009.
“Health care is growing increasingly unaffordable for America’s families and businesses, and this problem has become much worse during the recession. Too many people are joining the ranks of the uninsured and underinsured as more and more workers lose their jobs.
“Now is the time to get health care reform done, and we applaud the President for making this a clear priority for action this year.”
