Implementation of Affordable Care Act Takes a ‘Big and Positive Step Forward’ with New Regulations
Today, the Departments of Health and Human Services and Treasury proposed new regulations, pursuant to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), that provide guidance to states for enrolling individuals and families in health coverage through newly created health marketplaces and Medicaid. The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of the consumer health organization Families USA, about this development:
“Today’s proposed regulations provide states with the guidance they need to set up new systems that enable families to enroll in high-quality, affordable health coverage. These regulations constitute a big and positive step forward in implementing the Affordable Care Act.
“Across the country, middle-class and moderate-income families will now receive the help they need to pay for premiums they previously could not afford. America’s families will now be able to use a consumer-friendly, streamlined application process to secure that help.
“The Affordable Care Act promised families across the country that they could gain access to affordable, high-quality health coverage. Today’s proposed regulations give states the tools to deliver on that promise.
“We applaud the Obama Administration for moving the process forward in a helpful and timely manner.”
