Families USA Calls on Congress to Reject H.R. 2 and to Protect Health Care Benefits Americans Have Gained

Today, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on H.R. 2, a bill that seeks to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Families USA is one of more than 150 diverse national organizations speaking out today in opposition to this repeal effort. Families USA’s Executive Director, Ron Pollack, issued the following statement:

“Members of Congress need only look at the diverse combination of more than 150 organizations representing the spectrum of health care stakeholders to get a sense of what Americans stand to lose if the Affordable Care Act is repealed.

“We stand shoulder-to-shoulder in support of the Affordable Care Act because it brings important health care benefits and rights to America’s families.

“We stand shoulder-to-shoulder because repeal of the Affordable Care Act is a terrible step backwards. Such a repeal would eliminate protections newly provided to people with pre-existing conditions, withdraw health coverage for young adults, deprive seniors of prescription drug coverage they need, and end subsidies that small businesses need to offer affordable health coverage to their workers.

“We stand shoulder-to-shoulder because the Affordable Care Act provides high-quality, affordable health coverage and care to all Americans—and we don’t want that taken away.”
