Affordable Care Act Scores Another Win in Court
Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals Is Second Appellate Court to Uphold the Act
Today, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, dismissed two challenges to the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of health coverage to tens of millions of uninsured people. The following is the statement of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA (which was a signatory on a friend-of-the-court brief supporting the Affordable Care Act), in response to that ruling:
“Today’s ruling is a complete and emphatic victory for the Affordable Care Act. The judicial scorecard is now two Circuit Court of Appeals victories and one mixed decision—a decision that upheld all of the law’s provisions other than the individual mandate.
“This augurs well for the Supreme Court’s ultimate rejection of challenges to the Act. Meanwhile, implementation of the Affordable Care Act will move forward unimpeded so that every American will finally have access to high-quality, affordable health coverage and care.”
