Families USA Celebrates End of Insurers' Lifetime Limits
Affordable Care Act Gives Security to 105 Million Americans with Extension of Critical Protection
Washington, D.C.—Today, the Department of Health and Hunan Services released a study showing that 105 million Americans have benefited from the Affordable Care Act's prohibition against lifetime benefit limits. This includes 28 million children, 11.8 million Latinos, and 10.4 million African Americans. The following is the statement of Families USA's Executive Director Ron Pollack:
"This study shows us how much progress we've made under the Affordable Care Act. Three years ago, the vast majority of Americans had lifetime limits imposed on their insurance plans. Now, there are none. Before the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans lived with the constant fear that their insurance wouldn't be there when they needed it most. That fear has been replaced with the security that comes with knowing an insurance company won't come between patients and their doctors, especially for people with the most severe health conditions. The prohibition against lifetime limits benefited 105 million Americans, and the Affordable Care Act will benefit millions more as it is implemented in the coming months by extending coverage, limiting out-of-pocket expenses, and making providers accountable for the care they deliver."
