Liz Doyle Recognized for Her Achievements as a Leading Health Care Advocate in Minnesota

Ms. Doyle Receives the Families USA Consumer Health Advocate of the Year Award

Washington, D.C.—Families USA, the national organization for health care consumers, today is presenting Liz Doyle, Associate Director of TakeAction Minnesota, with the Consumer Health Advocate of the Year Award at the annual Families USA Health Action Conference.

The award, presented every year since 1998, recognizes outstanding contributions on behalf of our nation’s health care consumers. The award is being presented to Ms. Doyle for her past achievements and her current efforts to improve the quality of care and access to care for all Minnesotans.

“Today, as a health care organization, we honor Liz Doyle’s great effort in protecting health coverage for Minnesota’s families,” Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA, said. “That said, we need to acknowledge the way Liz and TakeAction Minnesota rose in defense of state residents in a yearlong battle with the state legislature over such issues as voter IDs, funding for education, and a harmful ‘super majority’ proposal.

“The work of Liz Doyle and TakeAction Minnesota is in the tradition of great national leaders on progressive issues coming out of that state, personified most recently by the late Sen. Paul Wellstone,” Pollack said. Today, we celebrate the value and effectiveness of those grassroots efforts and the vital importance of effective leaders like Liz Doyle.”

Ms. Doyle began TakeAction’s health care work soon after the organization was founded in 2006. Among the organization’s successes, TakeAction led successful campaigns to expand children’s health coverage in Minnesota, reinstate a state-funded health care program for very low-income Minnesotans, and enact one of the first Medicaid expansions in the country under the Affordable Care Act. She is now leading TakeAction Minnesota’s work to pursue a Basic Health Program in Minnesota.

Prior to joining TakeAction, Ms. Doyle was the Policy Director for the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, working on statewide health reform legislation and ballot initiatives. She grew up in Minneapolis and earned her undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Master’s in Public Policy from University of California-Berkeley.
