House Prescription Drug Bill Leaves Medicines Unaffordable for America's Seniors
Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, the national organization for health care consumers, released the following statement today concerning the prescription drug bill passed on the floor of the House of Representatives this morning: "The House passed a Swiss-cheese drug bill that gives the pharmaceutical lobby most of the cheese and leaves seniors with most of the holes. Needed medicines will continue to be unaffordable for America's seniors under this disappointing and partisan proposal. "The bill fails to deal with skyrocketing costs, provides no guaranteed drug coverage, and requires seniors to pay the lion's share of unaffordable drug costs. "It is little wonder, therefore, that the House leadership chose to debate this bill in the darkness of the night and allowed no amendments or substitute measures. America's seniors will be very disappointed with this bill."
