State Expansions: Utah
The Utah Health Policy Project has spearheaded a coalition, called U-SHARE (Utahns for Sustainable Health Reform), to bring consumer voices into the state’s discussion of comprehensive health reform. The coalition works to ensure that future health reforms will meet the needs of public program beneficiaries and of the state’s uninsured.
U-SHARE’s guiding principles call for expanding the state Medicaid and CHIP programs, replacing the Primary Care Network, and significantly reforming the private insurance market. As part of U-SHARE's strategy to move reform forward in Utah, the coalition is actively working with the Chamber of Commerce and other diverse stakeholders to find common ground on proposals to bring to the state legislature.
Low-income advocates are working to make Medicaid and CHIP improvements the first priority for any new health care funding, and to make sure that any new health coverage programs include benefits that will meet the needs of people with chronic illness and disabilities.
