Republican proposals will do nothing to reduce health care costs or improve the quality of health care for Americans.
Republican proposals do not address the underlying health care costs that help drive up health insurance premiums. Republican proposals shift more health care costs on to consumers and then rely on individual consumers who are paying for their own health care to negotiate with physician practices and hospitals for better care for lower prices. In contrast, proposals passed by both the House and Senate include a wide array of specific demonstration projects to see how government and others who pay for health care can work together to reward quality care, reduce medical errors, and lower costs. The proposals passed by the House and Senate also will give both doctors and patients access to better information to work together to decide on the most appropriate course of care.
