Working America’s Matt Morrison Joins the Board of Directors at Families USA

Leading Political Practitioner Has Expertise in Elections and Organizing

Washington, D.C., October 24, 2019 – Matt Morrison, Executive Director of Working America, has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Families USA.

Morrison, a leading political practitioner who has worked in over 500 elections, oversees the labor organization’s efforts to mobilize its three-million-members who do not have unions at their jobs. Under his direction, Working America combines innovative integration of traditional field organizing with analytics to increase targeting accuracy and voter turnout for candidates who support a fair economy for working-class Americans. Prior to becoming executive director, he was the political director— leading the refinement of the organization’s field and member communications programs through the use of clinical testing and advanced analytics.

Morrison’s experience also includes serving on John Edwards’ 2008 presidential campaign, in the government affairs department of the American Federation of Teachers and in the office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.). He holds undergraduate and law degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.

“Matt’s political prowess combined with his drive to build collective power for working people will definitely be an asset to Families USA,” said Frederick Isasi, Families USA’s executive director. “He understands how critical it is to improve equity in health care so that families have access to affordable, high-quality coverage that meets their needs and protects their financial security. Just as Working America wants to make an economy that works for everyone, Families USA wants health and health care that works for everyone.”

“We hear from thousands of door-step conversations each week that Americans’ top issue is health care. Far too many Americans are still uninsured. When they have insurance, many are worried about how to cover their premiums and are anxious about the looming threat of being one ER visit away from losing everything. The very real panic of access and affordability is front and center for many American families. So, it was a natural fit to join the Families USA Board, and I am honored to collaborate with such an esteemed group of leaders. Families USA continues to advance an aggressive agenda to ensure coverage for all and to push for innovative reforms that will improve the lives of millions of children and working families. I look forward to bringing Working America’s view from the ground to the organization’s important mission,” Morrison said.
